U.S. President Donald Trump announced his tariff policy after the market close, drawing immense market attention. Meanwhile, strong U.S. employment data was presented, with March ADP employment rising by 155,000 people, topping expectations. U.S. stocks opened lower but closed higher on Wednesday.
The S&P 500 added 37 points or 0.7%, closing at 5,670; the DJIA shot up 235 points or 0.6%, closing at 42,225; and the Nasdaq hiked 151 points or 0.9%, closing at 17,601.
Tesla (TSLA.US) reported a 13% drop in 1Q25 deliveries, underperforming market expectations, causing the stock to open sharply lower by 6%. However, after reports surfaced that Trump had hinted to his cabinet that Elon Musk would resign from his role as an advisor to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the coming months, Tesla’s stock rebounded and closed up 5.3%.
Amazon (AMZN.US) submitted an acquisition offer for TikTok ahead of its final deadline, with the stock closing up 2%. Nvidia (NVDA.US) rose 0.3%. Meta (META.US) saw a slight decline.
